Ballonne, coupe [ koo-PAY ba-law-NAY ]. Ballonne cut. A term of the Russian School. It consists of a coupe dessous followed by a fouette movement with a temps leve on the supporting leg. See Coupe fouette raccourci.
Ballonne, pas [ pah ba-law-NAY ]. Ball-like or bouncing step. A step in which the dancer springs into the air extending one leg to the front, side or back and lands with the extended leg either sur le cou-de-pied or retire. There are two kinds of ballonne: ballonne simple, which may be performed petit or grand; and ballonne compose, which is a compound step consisting of three movements (see these terms). Ballonne may be executed in all the directions of the body.
Ballonne arrondi [ba-law-NAY a-rawn-DEL f|. Ballonne rounded or curved. This is a series of ballonnes simples devant executed on a diagonal. The first ballonne is performed in the direction efface en avant with the front foot, immediately followed by the second ballonne with the same foot in the direction ecarte en avant.
Ballonne a trois temps [ ba-law-NAY a trwah tahn ]. Ballonne in three movements. A term of the Cecchetti method consisting of ballonne, chasse, coupe. The step is executed the same way as the ballonne compose except that the dancer executes a coupe on the last movement instead of closing in the fifth position. It may be performed en avant, en arriere and de cote in all the directions of the body. See Ballonne compose.
Ballonne battu [ ba-law-NAY ba-TEW]. Ballonne beaten. Execute a ballonne simple with the R leg to the second position; before closing the leg sur le cou-de-pied derriere, beat the L leg behind the R at the height of the jump. See Fouette battu.
Ballonne compose [ ba-law-NAY kawn-poh-ZAY]. Composite ballonne. A term of the French School. This is a compound step and consists of a ballonne simple, chasse and a close to the fifth position. It may be performed en avant, en arriere and de cote in all the directions of the body. See Ballonne a trois temps.
Ballonne devant sur la pointe [ba-law-NAY duh-VAHN sewr lah pwent ]. Ballonne in front on point. See Ballonne sur la pointe.
Ballonne simple [ba-law-NAY SEN-pluh]. Simple ballonne. This may be performed either petit or grand. In petit ballonne, the leg is extended to the second or fourth position at 45 degrees; then the knee is bent and the foot brought sur le cou-de-pied. In grand ballonne, the leg is extended at 90 degrees and finished with the foot at the knee.
Ballonne simple de cote [ba-law-NAY SEN-pluh duh koh-TAY ]. Ballonne simple to the side. Fifth position R foot front. Demi-plie, sliding the R foot along the ground to the second position en Fair at 45 degrees; push off the floor with the L foot, toes extended, traveling to the right; land in demi- plie on the L foot, bringing the R foot sur le cou-de-pied, either devant or derriere. This ballonne is performed traveling in the direction ecarte en avant, ecarte en arriere or de cote.
Ballonne simple derriere [ba-law-NAY SEN-pluh deh-RYEHR], Ballonne simple in back. Ballonne simple derriere is performed in the same manner as ballonne simple devant (q.v.) The working foot glides along the floor to the fourth position derriere en Fair at 45 degrees. The step travels in the direction efface en arriere or croise en arriere.
Ballonne simple devant [ba-law-NAY SEN-pluh duh-VAHN ].
Ballonne simple in front. Fifth position R foot front. Demi-plie, sliding the R foot along the floor to the fourth position devant en Fair at 45 degrees; push off the floor with the L foot, toes extended, traveling forward; land in demi- plie on the L foot, at the same time bringing the R foot sur le cou-de-pied devant. This ballonne is performed efface en avant or croise en avant with the body and arms placed according to the direction of the movement. The body and arms do not move during the step, but remain in the pose.
Ballonne sur la pointe [ba-law-NAY sewr lah pwent]. Ballonne on point. This is a releve on point with the working leg opening at 45 degrees on the musical accent. It is executed in the directions croise, efface and ecarte, traveling forward or backward.
Ballonne devant sur la pointe: Fifth position croise R foot front. Demiplie on the upbeat, raising the R foot sur le cou-de-pied devant and turning the body efface. Releve on the L pointe, opening the R leg efface devant at 45 degrees. Lower the L heel in fondu, bringing the R foot sur le cou-de-pied devant. Continue on the same foot, traveling forward on each releve.
